Consistency

Week Ending 14.06.2015

Last week was all about getting above the 70 mile mark, this week I was looking to stay at that level safely and include a one or two quality runs.

Sadly one of my favourite pairs of shoes (Salomon Sense Pro) finally gave up the ghost and went in the bin and had to be replaced. I think a few of the niggles in my ankles and calves in recent months are from running a lot of my training miles in what are essentially low profile racing shoes so a practical replacement was needed.

As most of my mileage is done running to and from work on a mix of road and hardpack trail, I really liked the grip offered by the Sense Pro’s so opted for a budget option of last year’s Salomon Mantra 2 which have the same tread pattern but a bit more padding. First few runs have been pretty comfortable but they don’t feel “fast” like the Sense Pro. Don’t know if that’s just in my head though!

Out with the old

In with the new – Salomon Sense Mantra 2.

It’s tricky with shoes, I want to eek out the last miles and I put in about 600 in the Sense Pro and although the uppers were falling apart, the soles felt OK for the most part but I think the reality is that on cross terrain they’re probably good for 400 miles before they need replacing. I need to be a little more watchful about shoe wear and tear as niggles definitely start appearing around 4-500 miles in most of the shoes I’ve owned.

Beyond the excitement of a new pair of shoes, I had a solid tempo run along the canal midweek and a massive PB run for 6th place in the Marsden 10 miler on Sunday so overall taking the easy base mileage runs easier and racing more thanks to the Meltham AC championships I feel progress is there.
