I had an amazing time at the Trail Team day in the Lakes recently and figured that would be the extent of my involvement but when I got a call to say I’d made it onto the “shorter shortlist” I started to hope for the best.
After that call, I then shifted my focus to the Hardcastle 24 hour race but the day before the race, Simon from Freestak phoned and told me the awesome news that of all the people who’d applied for the team, I had somehow shown a flicker of something that was a fit for the Trail Team and was in!
Next up is a team trip to run the mountains around Chamonix and meet up with Berghaus athletes Philippe & Anna Gata and the Berghaus Trail Chase in August.
In between as part of the program we’ll be getting some of the new Berghaus gear to use and test and having seen some of the new ranges at the Lakes weekend I can’t wait! Having seen the Vapourlight waterproof that looks a great bit of kit for racing in the rain.
Opportunities
One of the things I’m really looking forward to from the year of being involved with the Trail Team is the chance to tap into the expertise on offer from not only Berghaus but Torq Nutrition (which powered me around Hardcastle 24) and LED Lenser who are also sponsoring the team as well as my fellow team mates who all have great running backgrounds.
I love learning about this sport and it’s helping me make great strides in my training and racing so fingers crossed that will continue.
Berghaus have a good setup for non-professional runners and bloggers such as myself with their community engagement so I look forward to sharing more reviews, training and race reports too.
If I can somehow make onto the team for this year after only a couple of life changing years of running then I hope to share the things that motivate me to get out there with more people.
Hard to believe that since starting running with my wife in January 2012 and struggling along a flat canal path breathless after a mile or two that I’m here wondering what this life changing opportunity will present.
