First time I’ve done two races in a week for a while and it’s certainly still tough!
Wednesday was the Dovestone Diamond which is a challenging 10k trail race I’ve done but with Meltham AC club points at stake in the club championships there was no slacking off and I was first Meltham runner back in 41.34 in 9th place out of 250.
Sunday was the shorter 3 mile Saddleworth Fell Race which I struggled with massively having put in a big effort on Wednesday my legs felt heavy and tired as the race is a classic up and down loop so the first mile is a punishing 800ft ascent.
The start of the descent back down to the finish was a 33% proper “over the edge” job which my XT4 shoes were no match for with me slipping over onto my arse a couple of times but good fun none the less. In the end 28:43 wasn’t dreadful but I think I could certainly do better on fresher legs but luckily still got maximum points in the Fell Championship table with Meltham so a a productive week all round.
Good fun doing local races like this though, £4 on the day and just over the hill from home so easy to take part although my toe is sore this morning which I am a little worried about as I don’t recall knocking it.
