Fast but frustrating – Week ending 11th May 2014

Bit of a weird week all things told, for the first time in as long as I can remember I didn’t really my running and my mojo deserted me.

I knew with Hardcastle Crags 24 hour race coming up next weekend I didn’t really have much reason to push out a load drudging miles so I thought I’d just get the functional part of my run commute to work done and just get the week (running wise) over with as quick as possible.

It might because I seem to be carrying a bit of a knee and achilles niggle that I feel a little down and I think to be honest once HC24 is out of the way, I’m going to have a couple of weeks to rest and recover and go see the physio I’ve been planning on for ages and just get a couple of things worked out as I’ve been consistently running and training for a while now without any injury but just wondering if there’s a bit of cumulative build up to address and that’s why I didn’t quite feel it this week.

That said, I did enjoy running in the new Brooks Pure Drift and although downhill, I set a new 5km PB of 17:47 on a tempo run to work so not all bad.

I did however pay for it with extremely tight calf muscles for days though so I think there’s obviously some imbalance going on that needs sorting.

Another easy week ahead and then 24 hours solo running around a 5k trail loop. Can’t wait to challenge my mind and body against this one!
