London calling

Finished a solid week of runs with a punishing fell race and I’m about as ready for London as I’m ever going to be.

I’ve been looking at my mileage since starting training for London and it’s been pretty erratic but seems to finally be settling down at around 45-55 a week but I definitely feel there’s a lot more speed in my legs that building more towards 70 would bring out but London first.

In the meantime, it’s basically been a steady week of run commuting and my knee feels like it’s strong again and I hope a road marathon doesn’t knack it but I’ve definitely got my mojo back again having gone back to the trails and put less stress on myself to do something specific for London.

I have goals for it but I’m happy to leave it to the day and see what happens on the road.

Saturday was a blast – I took part in the West Nab Fell Race which I wanted to do last year as it’s literally on my doorstep. What an absolutely punishing race it was too – extremely steep climbs and a full ascent of West Nab followed by an equally technical and steep descent which I thoroughly enjoyed. Still amazes me how many people apparently don’t practice downhill running at pace on technical terrain though.

I made up 5 places coming back down to runners that left me wheezing on the climbs. Good turn out from Meltham AC and my target for the race was simply to do as well as I could in terms of our club fell championship table and was ultimately first back so that’s 3 races in the champs and 3 top points finishes which is great.

A massive highlight for me was Felix doing his first ever fell race running in the Under 8’s! *Proud dad alert*. He had a great time and the Holmfirth Harriers put on a good day with a lot of different age group races.

With both me and Felix running on our doorstep, Ally completed the Kielder dark sky marathon which looked great too!
