Race face – Week ending 1/6/2014

Yet another low mileage week due to a racing. It’s nearly time to start a full training cycle.

After running Hardcastle 24 two weeks ago, my original plan before that race was that I’d probably just be getting back into some light running after a full week or two off but as it happens, I’ve done 2 races (Meltham Murder Maniac and Dovestone Diamond) in the last 10 days instead.

Not ideal but sometimes you’ve got to just get on with it if the legs feel alright.

This weeks race was the Dovestone Diamond 10k multi-terrain race (mostly trail) and going into to the race I looked at last years report where I ran 44:50 for 25th place and thought I was perhaps in slightly better shape now but was very aware I was running on tired legs so managing to smash more than 2 minutes off my time (42:46) for 11th place was amazing to me!

It was also my first club championship race and I was chuffed to take full points.

Apart from that, I’ve been struggling with a bit of a niggle running down from my glutes through the back of my left leg down to my achilles. I’m off to see Ally’s sports physio to get checked over because while it’s not crippling (indeed, it’s actually fine when I run) clearly there’s a bit of imbalance there that needs checking out if I’m going to put in a big block of training to get ready for Ladybower 50 miler ultra marathon in September.

No more races now apart from Marsden 10 where I’d like to knock a few minutes off last years time if possible.
