Knee niggle and Summer Wine – Week ending 8th June 2014

Just when it was all going so well, the dreaded knee niggle appears, like a thief about to steal all my hard earned training miles.

I’ve been running with a few niggles for a while now and while they’ve not really slowed me down or been particularly painful, they’re definitely a sign something’s not quite right and that I should listen to my body and get them checked out.

Most of my woe seems to focus around a little left knee pain at the moment and I’ve done some research on the symptoms and there’s a couple of possible issues I’ve found which I’m going to leave to the physio to diagnose properly and tell me what the best way to get back to it is.

With the Trail Team trip to Chamonix at the end of the month to look forward to, I’m basically backing off running until after I’ve seen the physio and give myself a bit of a break having not really stopped for anything more than a few days in the last couple of years. Probably time to take a look at my diet while I’m having some downtime and actually sort out some of the junk I’ve been eating.

Saturday at least was a nice change of pace, I do try to help out at events and parkrun when possible because it’s nice to give back and support local races too so we had a bit of a family day out supporting the Summer Wine Trails race by doing the timing. Felix had great fun doing the kids 1km trail race (in wellies no less) at the last minute and generally helping out, it’s good he’s so excited about marshalling and supporting!

We did make plans to run/hike Kinder Scout this weekend as a wedding anniversary day out but honestly neither of us was feeling too jolly with my niggle and Ally still recovering from a cold so here’s hoping some rest will do us both some good.
